Extra-curricular activities- check! I've now done everything except what I'm supposed to be doing. I've got a ton of reading to do for my class (but luckily I don't have class tomorrow because it's holiday), and I've got several small assignments to check and paper works to grade from each of my classes. Clearly this is going to be a horribly disorganized post, as I'm really just typing to avoid work. I don't really have anything to say, as I haven't even gotten into my routine, let alone started analyzing my kids in school and my teaching. I'm also making lists of things I can do besides work while I type, which isn't helping my organizational skills at all.
I was going to start the grading yesterday and check the statuses of my pupils whether they improve or not and planning to have a home visit of the two of my pupils who frequently making absences, but I really wasn't feeling well. I napped all afternoon instead. I'm still not feeling exceptionally great, but I could go over to what I've been inspired to do. I have searched and surfed on the net some current news and discoveries to take any sort of knowledge to go over (just like PLUTO'S reincarnation as a planet, bwahaha), maybe it's going to be complicated because it's still being debated. Also, caught up a movie called "the gifted," which was really nice and good.)
I'm really having a difficult time getting into the swing of things this year. I think it's because I have my M.A classes every weekends. It took so much extra work that it really drained me. My kids in school were a rag-tag bunch...many of those who have lower grades the year before where in my section. You can imagine all sorts of motivation that should be applied to them. Plus, there was no skills of comprehension ever learned from the start of their being fifth grader. I had to handle all discipline problems myself...One of my girls have frequent absences. For sure, she'll be my candidate to the PARDO program which is being implemented by the DepEd curriculum. To top it off, I didn't have access to the student information, so I couldn't get phone numbers to call or even send letters home..but, I shall see. It's really pretty risky, but it's my responsibility to advise and encourage her to go to school regularly.
I said in my last post that my kids are great, and for the most part they are. But I have a few I think will be challenging. They're just very moody kids. Some days are great and we get along well, then other days...I also had a student who refused to do an in-class assignment on the first day of class, but I think I scared him away. I gave the blank sheet back to him several times and told him I wouldn't give him a zero. He could either do it, spend a review class with me, but there was nothing he had done. He eventually decided to do the assignment on the latter days, but he has since been a problem to my class. Attitude problem it is. I'd never stopped thinking on what strategies and methods I could do in teaching them and making them realize how important is education for them.
And for the bottom line of all of these, I've made a motto for the month.
Be organized. Be optimistic. Never abandoned good opportunities in life.
